Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH), sometimes called Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP), involves the installation of a direct fiber optic connection to the residence. Optical fiber has the capability of carrying hundreds or thousands times more data than current forms of "broadband", such as DSL or cable modem.
 FTTH will enable advanced converged communication technologies, including multiple channels of high definition television and full video websites. More importantly, it will usher in many new applications, such as advanced video conferencing and two-way digital patient/health provider communication.
